Ever heard of a scary story that you kept thinking about until you couldn’t sleep? Well you pretend to sleep but really you’re just closing your eyes trying hard not to think about it. We’ve all been there.
Stories about spirits I think are most scariest to me, which is funny because we can’t even see them - so why all the sweating?
Then your mind starts playing tricks on you.. When you’re about to go to bed and then hear a “clinch†noise coming from under your bed. You think something is under your bed but really it’s just the sound of metal inside your mattress carrying your weight. We always like to think outside the box in these scenarios, don’t we? Then you stress out about it until morning comes and then it’s all alright after that. Phew!
I’ve been road mapping Fujairah last month with a friend, since the weather has been asking for it. One of the locations we planned to visit was an old sulfurous spring located at the end of Kalba called Ain Al Gumour springs. I remember my Dad used to take us there when we were little and we would swim in the boiling water. Yes, boiling water. But anyway that’s not the story.
So then I went with Florence and the rest to re-visit this place, the ride there was beautiful, it was like a roller-coaster except I was in control of the ride. Here’s a picture of the road going there:
But beyond that road… is where the scary story comes in.
When we finally arrived at the location, we saw that there really was nothing left of the hot spring. There were a couple of people gathered over there which was spooky as the location literally is in the middle of no where. One of the guys approached us and this was the conversation that went down…
“Can I help you?â€
“Yes please, we’re looking for the hot spring?â€
“The hot spring have dried up years ago. There is no spring.â€
“Oh? Thanks for the info, can we look at the pools at least?â€
“It’s broken, but you can go over there to look at the remains.â€
“Thank you,â€
“But I don’t encourage it. It’s best you go back.â€
“Excuse me?â€
“Just that the little devils will be coming out to play soon.â€
“Are you serious?â€
“Yes. Good-bye now.â€
AND THAT WAS THE FREAKIEST CONVERSATION I’VE EVER HAD.
So I waved nervously, reversed the car, and drove the hell out of there without looking back. Florence was asking me what the guy was saying because he said all that stuff in Arabic, but I was too focused on the road calculating how fast we could reach home. I don’t think I’ll be going there any time soon. Or ever.
I mean, who on Earth says that stuff? Couldn’t he have had put in better words? “The little devils will be coming out to play†- you have got to be kidding me. And I don’t exactly want to know how he even knows. *Shivers*
On another note, the weather is oh so beautiful, with the fluffy clouds coming back in style.

It really is the best time to go out the coming months. Fujairah is the place to be right now - enjoy it.
Until next time, Fajrawis,
