It’s finally that time of the year again, and everyone’s so happy about the arrival of the month of December. No, I’m not talking about UAE’s National Day, I’m talking about my birthday. But because I love National Day so much, I will maybe think about writing a little something about it.
December feels different every year, but at the same time, that same feeling is somehow familiar. In December, the same atmosphere is spread all across the country, celebrating the same exact motive: the United Arab Emirates.
People get so excited that they prepare for the National Day one month before the actual date, and in that month, you shall expect these tiny details that our minds have gotten accustomed to…
Road traffic that starts from one roundabout and ends at another.
Car horns beeping like maniacs as if it were the end of the world, except it isn’t, that’s just their way of expressing their love.
You almost feel like you become colour blind because of all the flags placed everywhere you look. You regain your vision after people star removing the flags. That can last for 2 more months after the celebrations are over.
If someone doesn’t have a flag outside their house/building, something is wrong.
Everyone around you is carrying a UAE pendant or a badge on their chest.
Tons of cars are redecorated or painted with UAE flag colours.
Chaos occurs during parades, and people get inflicted with snow sprays, who later on suffer from an aftershock because they haven’t had that many people spray snow on their faces.
On the other hand, snow spray users suffer from blisters on their fingertips.
Cars are also affected during parades, having partial damages and windows that would not work properly until the car undergoes intense washing and cleaning.
People participating in parades and outdoor activities are heavily exposed to polluted air which leads them to experiencing mild headaches and a loss of appetite the morning after.
National day events will be happening all across institutes and companies, would be difficult to decide which one to go to, but they all have the same stuff going on like traditional food, dances, prize draws, cakes, bazaar, and other stuff too.
After the celebrations, it would be difficult to wake up in the morning.
All these things make up the atmosphere of the celebrations, I suggest you be prepared for all of it if this year’s national day will be your first time experiencing it. Of course, all these things makes me smile, after all, this is a great country to be in, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
There is one important thing I forgot to mention, is that the streets of Fujairah the morning after the parade looks like it’s been taken over by The Rubbish Colony. Celebration is always fun and it shows patriotism, but let’s not forget that we are all responsible for our mess, and making our city look and smell bad is no sign of patriotism. So let’s clean up the mess we made this year, making it look even better than it was before. :)
I didn’t forget my birthday, though half way through writing this I realized that I love my country way more than my birthday - Happy National Day everyone!
